Why we exist
Built by someone who grew up with a woodpile.
Travis Lewis, the creator of Firewood Willie, grew up heating two houses off firewood — his family's home and his grandmother's next door. Every weekend was cutting weekend. That work is humbling, and it teaches you the value of hard work and appreciation for what keeps a house warm.
After 20 years building technology, Travis wanted to bring what he'd learned back to the people he grew up around — firewood operators making a living off honest, careful work.
Willie isn't a real person. He's the friendly face of Firewood Willie — a stand-in for the hardworking, dependable operator: the guy who knows what he's cutting and would give you the shirt off his back to help. He was inspired by the people Travis grew up with in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Clarke County, Virginia.
What we're building
A directory + a calculator, working together.
The directory is where buyers find real sellers — names, prices, hours, photos, reviews, and a way to message the operator directly. The estimator is a calculator that takes how you actually burn — fireplace, fire pit, smoker, pizza oven, daily wood heat — and tells you how much wood you really need.
Small operators do real, careful work: curing hardwoods for a year, knowing the difference between cooking wood and a campfire load, delivering when they say they will. They lose to suburban resellers and Marketplace listings because Marketplace doesn't reward expertise. Firewood Willie is trying to fix that.
